A huge decision for Game of Runes was how it should look.
My previous game, Nemo’s Fury was full of bright primary colours with costume design of the submarine suits very much influenced by the work of the late great Carlos Ezquerra on the comic strip adaption of Harry Harrison’s sci-fi romp, The Stainless Steel Rat, originally published in the British weekly anthology comic, 2000AD.
I went back to 2000AD for Game of Runes, but this time I drew (haha!) inspiration from the work of Mike McMahon on the sword and sorcery epic, Slaine. McMahon is the greatest British artist of the late twentieth century, and he developed a new style of drawing for himself for the Slaine strip. You can almost smell the combat!
Where the mighty McMahon used black and white, I added the red of combat to my shades of black, creating a lovely stark and gothic effect. Plus limited my palette speeded up the process of creating the many artworks demanded by Game of Runes!

Game of Runes is free to play on your desktop, laptop or tablet, and features original art, a unique combat system and the occasional terrible pun.
NO fee, NO registration! Just click to play!
I hope you enjoy playing Game of Runes, the gamebook version will be available soon!
